RESUME TIPS 1. Make sure your name, address and phone number are clearly visible
at the
top
of
your resume. Include any alternate phone numbers that you may be
reached at
and/or an e-mail address. 2. Objective Statements should be tailored to the type of position
you are
seeking.
They should be detailed enough to give the reviewer a general idea
of
the type of
position you are seeking, but not too specific to disqualify you
from
other similar
positions that might be available. 3. The Education section of your resume should contain all of post-secondary
institutions attended beginning with the most recent. Be sure to
list the dates
that
you
attended each and the degrees awarded. Include any academic
research
in
which you
were involved. Only list your GPA if it is above a 3.0 4. The Experience section of your resume should contain all jobs
that you have
held
beginning with the most recent. Be sure to include dates of
employment,
job
title,
and
specific job duties. 5. List any instrumentation, computer software or other tools
you have worked
with
that may be of interest to a future employer. 6. List any organizations you belong to or awards you have
received. 7. Do not make any mention of salary unless the job advertisement
specifically
asks
for salary requirements. 8. References may or may not be included with the resume.
If you decide to
include
them, list 3-4 PROFESSIONAL references (i.e. people
that have worked
with you in the
past.) 9. NEVER make any mention to marital status, gender,
race, religious
background,
children, etc. This is an out-dated practice and
should have no
bearing on
whether
or
not you are qualified for a particular position. 10. ALWAYS double and triple check your resume for
spelling and grammatical
errors
prior to sending it out. Remember, this is the
first impression you will
make
on
a
potential employer.
